Rig Mechanic
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Rig Mechanic to join our expanding offshore team.
Due to the ever-expanding growth of the offshore wind market, and our focus on renewable energy an exciting opportunity has come available for a contract position of Rig Mechanic with geotechnical drilling experience on heave compensated vessels.
Job Summary
The Rig Mechanic ensures all mechanical systems and equipment on the rig are maintained to a high operational standard. The Rig Mechanic onboard will be tasked directly by the maintenance and planning engineer and maintenance supervisor and work closely with the drillers to tend to any mechanical concerns that are raised.
Functions and duties
The duties assigned to the Rig Mechanic will be varied; these will include but not be limited to the following:
Safety
- Ensure adherence to safety and maintenance policies and procedures.
- Participate in and promote the Company’s STAR 10 Life Saving Rules and Observation Card program.
- Participate in the weekly and operational safety meetings.
- Participate in Risk Assessment or Job Safety Analyses analysis as required.
- Carry out inspections and audits according to the Management System Requirements.
- Assist in rig Mobilization and Demobilization as required.
- Follow Geoquip Marine policies and procedures and performs all duties in accordance with the Permit to Work System.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Assist in development, revise and review procedures and work instructions.
- Familiar with navigation of Integrated Management System (IMS).
Maintenance
- Maintain the order, cleanliness, and housekeeping in the mechanic workshop, container’s on back deck and surrounding areas.
- Ensures all WO’s are carried out to a high standard and in accordance with WO instructions or manufacturer recommendations.
- Train roughnecks to assist in planned maintenance/repair work, encourage those who show potential and report accordingly to maintenance supervisor and rig manager.
- Perform daily Mechanic Checklist (WO’s), visual inspections of equipment and potential malfunctions; ensure potential hazards and abnormal operating conditions are addressed quickly, and that any deteriorating conditions are reported to the Drilling Supervisor and maintenance and planning engineer.
- Monitor rotating equipment for unusual noise, vibration, and seal leaks. Respond to alarms, check pressures, temperature, and fill out logs as required.
- Ensure WO’s are completed, signed and submitted within the requested timeframe.
- Carry out repairs and rebuilds of all equipment to a high standard and in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Record all repair work carried out on daily reports and submit to the maintenance department at the end of each shift.
- Ensure that the critical spares lists are kept updated for each piece of equipment and parts requests are submitted for any missing/low stock.
- Ensure goods inwards for rig maintenance/repair are received, correctly stored and updated in stock levels
- Diagnose faults quickly and safely utilizing lockout/tagout where required.
- Report any equipment concerns raised by other vessel/rig crew.
- Strive to consistently improve equipment safety and reliability
- Plan and perform maintenance and repairs in a way that reduces or removes any negative effect on rig uptime.
- Create risk assessments and work instruction for all repair jobs before commencing. Ensure the work instructions are submitted to maintenance for review and to be filed for use in future.
- Consider financial impact of spares parts orders by not ordering unnecessary parts or excessive quantities.
- Continuously liaise with the Drilling Supervisor and other senior drill crew to plan preventative maintenance and any planned repairs.
- Any other duties deemed necessary, which are within the bounds of the incumbent’s competence and function.
Other Requirements
Must pass Company Medical Examinations & random drug and alcohol tests. This includes client and/or country medical requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in mechanical, maintenance and repair.
- Minimum 2 years working with Hydraulics and Pneumatics
- Accredited technical or trade school or institute is preferred

- Must pass pre-employment and random drug test
