This position shall play an integral part of the day to day as well as long term projects that will ensure safe, efficient completion of projects. Your impact:
Geoquip Marine’s Engineering, Design and development department supports the entire drilling fleet with all modifications and upgrades on the back deck to meet project requirements. The Mechanical Design Engineer role shall be an integral part of the day to day as well as long term projects that will ensure safe, and efficient completion of projects. They shall be involved in the development of new equipment, modifications to existing, optimizing layouts of equipment, and ensuring all aspects of the fleet maintain a high level of safety.
The Job - Safety, Design Engineering and Technical Support
- Advancing and developing existing geotechnical investigation spreads.
- Planning, preparing, designing and implementing of spread and equipment mobilizations aboard vessels.
- Develop technical documentation and specifications for the equipment mobilizations aboard vessels.
- Develop technical documentation and specifications for the equipment, including the maintenance of a document control system.
- Implementation and running of suitable planned maintenance systems for the Company’s equipment; including job preparation planning/scheduling.
- Ensuring equipment and its operation is in compliance with all the relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Responsible for quality control and approval of all mechanical engineering and for engineering standards utilised, including possible development of in-house software in accordance with current industry accepted standards and methods.
- Promote and be responsible for the implementation and follow up of the Company’s high level HSE rules and requirements during investment projects.
- Ensures adherence to safety and maintenance policies and procedures.
- Participates in the weekly and operational safety meetings.
- Participates in Risk Assessment or Job Safety Analyses analysis as required.
- Carries out inspections and audits according to the Management System Requirements.
- Assists in rig Mobilization and Demobilization as required.
- Be familiar with rules of classification societies, international organizations and proper implementation of Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) policies.
- ‘Hands-On’ use of CAD and structural design software programs.
- Develop and write technical documentation.
The Person
- Experience in design engineering, especially in offshore geotechnical drilling, vessels and/or other heavy equipment.
- Preferred degree (Bachelor of Master or Professional Certification) in Engineering or Naval Architecture.
- Relevant &/or similar work experience in marine oil & gas sector, renewable energies, offshore construction.
- Experience with ‘on-site’ work, including fabrication supervision and installation of equipment aboard vessels.
- Strong experience using AutoCAD/Solidworks or similar.
- Ability to travel to domestic and international field locations as and when needed.
- Fluency in English required, any other spoken/written languages considered an asset.
- Capable of working to tight deadlines and without supervision.
